The Crew on Nor Siglar

With a permanent crew of two:
"Captain" Martin and "First Officer" Anne, NOR SIGLAR sailed a total distance of 56,000 nautical miles which is 2.6 times around the world at Equator.

Often during their 9-year cruise, friends and relatives would join them, some as crew to help out on longer crossings, especially in the beginning. But most came to enjoy NOR SIGLAR'S many distant and exotic locations seldom reached on holiday charters or package tours.

For Anne and Martin, these visits were much treasured and some of the highlights of their long adventure away from home. Not only did the visitors liven up their everyday routine - they also brought much longed-for mail, and more often than not, a suitcase full of spare parts and "special orders". Actually, the deal was that the admission fee to cruise onboard NOR SIGLAR was exactly that: To bring a full suitcase of what was needed from home and when returning, fill it up with mementoes that Anne and Martin had acquired along the way, and which were threatening to sink NOR SIGLAR!

On these pages you will find a short introduction to NOR SIGLAR'S permanent crew and a Chronological Summary of the crew and visitors who came along during the voyage.

Martin Vennesland

Retired forester, (ex. President of Reid Collins Forest Consulting, Vancouver), current wood lot owner, born in Vennesla, Norway 1931, immigrated to Canada in 1955.

Anne Brevig

Retired business woman, (ex. Manager Administration "&" Accounting, Gearbulk Shipping Canada Ltd., Vancouver), current writer, born in Halden, Norway 1945, immigrated to Canada in 1971.

Anne and Martin met in Vancouver in 1983. They married on August 23, 1991, a week before leaving for offshore, after having lived onboard "NOR SIGLAR" since 1986, the first 5 years in Spruce Harbour Marina in False Creek, Vancouver. For them, NOR SIGLAR has not "only" been their faithful circumnavigator for 9 years - but their one and only home for 15 years. So this has not "just" been a circumnavigation, but a life style.
